The Balboa

The Balboa is a swing dance born in the 1920s on the West Coast of the United States, more precisely on the Balboa Peninsula near San Diego at the "Rendez-vous" dance hall. It is most often danced in 8 beats to swing music, and its footwork is more particularly suited to fast tempos, without excluding slow tempos. The characteristic features of this dance are a dancer-dancer connection through the bust and pelvis in a closed position, and a basic step slipped close to the movement one makes when waxing the floor. It is a contact dance where the sensations felt by the dancers are close to Tango.
