The Be-bop

The be-bop is a swing dance born in the cellars of Saint Germain des Prés in Paris after the Liberation. At that time, young people and artists met in modest bistros in Saint-Germain-des-Prés to party in order to forget the horrors of the Second World War. The dancers are nicknamed the "Cave Rats" after a troupe formed by Jano Merry, and perform to swing, boogie, New Orleans jazz and traditional jazz. Their dance from swing and boogie will be called be-bop. After 1949, the bebop world championship continued each year but was renamed the… Rock'n Roll World Championship. The dance is characterized by a rounded, flowing body style, rounded figures or passes in the trajectories of the 2 dancers, great freedom of movement, a lot of elegance. There are common figures that we find in most dancers but each teacher creates his own figures and names them freely: the be-bop is therefore a dance difficult to qualify just like the musical current be-bop which was a extravagant mix of Jazz, Blues and Swing tones
