The Carolina Shag

The term "Carolina Shag" probably took its origins on  along the beach between Myrtle Beach, SC, and Wilmington, NC, in the 1940s. According to Bo Bryan, a historian and resident of Beaufort County, the term Carolina Shag was  invented  in Carolina Beach, North Carolina. The shag is a descendant  of the Jitterbug, and its predecessor, Little Apple (whose origins can be traced to so-called Columbia, South Carolina in 1937).
