The Shag

The shag spread in the United States a few years before Lindy Hop became popular. Born in the southern United States, Collegiate Shag became very popular in the 1920s with students (we say college for university in the United States, hence the name Collegiate Shag). Evolution of the Charleston in couple, the shag is a dance in 6 times, very playful, with a lot of jumps, kicks and footwork. The dancers move their upper body little, make very rapid movements of the feet, and remain most of the time in a closed position, very close together, with brief openings. In the standard form, the left hand of the rider and the right hand of the partner are raised above the level of the head. Easy to learn, the shag allows you to dance at very fast tempos
